Evening Program To Commence At 7:15 p.m.
Draft To Commence At 7:45 p.m.
The weekend kicks off with food and drinks, while you gather with your team for a draft day decision. Does your lineup need a boost on offense? Past NHL Alumni have included Curtis Glencross, Martin Gelinas and Gary Roberts. Maybe you need to shore up your blueline. How about someone like Robyn Reger or Dana Murzyn? Both are previous tourney regulars. How about a player to keep the mood in the dressing room light? Jeremy Roenick and Mike Commodore have been great picks in previous years.
The more funds your team raises, the higher you draft. Once you've called your NHL Alumni on stage, the rest of the evening is for your team to game plan, share stories and share a drink with your new ringer.
2-Day Tournament Saturday & Sunday, May 24-25
Flames Community Arenas
Imagine scoring on a drop pass from Brad May. Or trying to deke your way around Dave Babych. Teams will play three games over the weekend (typically two on Saturday and one on Sunday).
Each player will receive:
- Fully-stocked dressing rooms
- Sock tape, stick tape, hydrating drinks, snacks, towels & more
- Personalized equipment
- Jerseys, socks & designated locker stalls
- And more!
Registration:
The registration fee is $399 per individual. On May 15th, the fee increases to $450. This covers the cost of your participation in:
- Draft Night, including food & drinks
- Tournament play, including ice times, personalized jerseys, sock tape, hockey tape and hydrating drinks
- Player lounge food & drinks
Players per team: 10 minimum, 17 maximum
Teams must raise a minimum of $25,000. However if the team is consider a “new” team, the minimum fundraising amount is $15,000 (first year only).
Teams play 3 games in total, usually 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday.
The Gordie Howe C.A.R.E.S. PRO-AM Hockey Tournament will be hosted at Flames Community Arenas from May 24-25, and FREE of charge for all fans to come down and watch. This world class event puts together weekend hockey warriors with their heroes from the NHL Alumni in a fun filled weekend focused on raising funds towards Alzheimer’s.
The Alzheimer’s Pro-Am has raised over $5 million dollars over the past five years. All proceeds to date have gone towards furthering the research and awareness of what many believe to be Canada’s future largest epidemic, Alzheimer’s, dementia and related mental illnesses. All future funds will go towards programs, education, training, research and care for those suffering with Alzheimer’s/Dementia disease.
The weekend kicks off with a luncheon on Friday, May 23rd, followed by the draft night and a 2 day tournament at Flames Community Arenas. This charity event pairs local amateur hockey players with the favourite NHL Alumni like Bryan Trottier and Lanny McDonald as they drop the puck in the battle against Alzheimer’s and other related dementias. Don’t miss this chance to play hockey with and against some of your favourite former NHL players, while creating lasting memories and raising money for a great cause.
Hang out with your teammates and meet a host of NHL alumni as you revel in the excitement and team spirit at our exclusive Draft Night. Centre for Alzheimer’s Research and Education Society is a registered charity, supporting local people living with dementia and their caregivers through the delivery of education, support services and Adult Day Programs. It also supports Dementia Network Calgary – a cross-sector movement tackling the social and systemic challenges of dementia.
Gordie Howe C.A.R.E.S. will be hosted in the State-of the Art Seniors community, Fish Creek Manor Village overlooking Fish Creek Provincial Park. This facility will have both Independent and Assisted Living, in addition to specialized memory care neighbourhoods. C.A.R.E.S. will provide much needed educational and research opportunities, as well as a dementia day support program offered to the public.
More specifically, from a Research lens we are very interested in understanding how diet, sleep and exercise play a role in someone’s ability to “fight” delay or arrest the onset of dementia symptoms or the pathological markers associated with the disease. C.A.R.E.S. will allow for the Grass Roots research findings to be shared with the Calgarians.
The endeavours at C.A.R.E.S. are generously supported through the auspices and fundraising of the annual Gordie Howe C.A.R.E.S. Pro-Am Hockey Tournament and Luncheon. The Net Proceeds of the sponsors and partnerships will support the design and development of the Non-Profit C.A.R.E.S programs and services for Calgary and surrounding area.

Advocacy: Whether it’s advocating for increased bathroom access through GoHere®, or simply shedding light on these invisible diseases, Gutsy Walk is a day to speak up about the realities of life with Crohn’s and colitis.

Crohn’s and colitis are lifelong diseases that can have a devastating impact on quality of life, elevate the risk of colorectal cancer, and in the case of Crohn’s disease, shorten life expectancy.
The Funds
Every dollar you raise through Gutsy Walk helps Crohn’s and Colitis Canada in efforts to:
- Raise awareness of these diseases
- Help more people with Crohn's and colitis and their caregivers
- Advocate to governments and stakeholders on behalf of those affected

Huntington disease (HD) is an inherited brain disorder that causes cells in specific parts of the brain to die. Huntington disease is a genetic disorder. About one in every 10,000 Canadians has HD, but one in every 1,000 are touched by HD whether at risk, as a caregiver, family member or friend. The HD gene is dominant, which means that each child born to a parent with Huntington disease has a 50% chance of sharing the same fate.
The symptoms of HD include:
1. Emotional (depression, apathy, obsessive behaviour)
2. Mental (inability to focus, think and recall, make decisions)
3. Physical (weight loss, involuntary movements, diminished coordination,.inability to walk, talk, swallow)
The disease leads to complete incapacitation and, eventually, death. At the moment, there are no treatments that will slow down or stop the disease. But hope for a meaningful treatment has never been more real. More than ever, now is the time to step up the fight against HD. Proceeds of this event go to the Huntington Society of Canada.

29th Annual Betty's Run for ALS
North Glenmore Park, 7305 Crowchild Tr. S.W.
Schedule:
9:00 a.m.: Pre-event and Warm-up
10:00 a.m.: 5 km. Walk Start
10:30 a.m.: 8 km. Fun Run Start
Registration: $35
Twenty-nine years ago, Betty Norman had a wish to find a cure for ALS. In spite of her own battle with the disease, Betty unselfishly used her time and energy to bring her vision to life. In Betty’s own words, “I remain determined. I have an important need to find some meaning in my altered life and maybe a justification as to why I was given this horrible disease. I want to make a difference in the time that I have left and possibly help future people with ALS.”
Hundreds of families, volunteers and supporters have carried the torch forward to make Betty’s Run an event that inspires care, hope and community. This grassroots event laid the financial foundation to enable the ALS Society of Alberta to grow in its support of people living with ALS across Alberta. Since the first run, families have raised more than $10.5 million for research, equipment and client support services.
In 1996, Calgarian Betty Norman was diagnosed with ALS. Her year long physical and emotional battle with this terrible disease inspired her friends and family to organize an annual fundraiser. Betty's Run for ALS has grown steadily to become one of the largest ALS fundraisers in Canada.
What is ALS?
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a rapid, always fatal neurodegenerative disease. It attacks the nerves of the body that are responsible for sending messages to the brain. This results in weakness and wasting, and eventually an inability to swallow or breathe. The ALS Society of Alberta’s mission is to make each day the best possible for those living with and affected by ALS, and those closest to them. This is achieved by providing support, facilitating the provision of care, promoting awareness, helping find a cure, and advocating for change.
